First Steps in OpenSolaris

At first sight, OpenSolaris feels very much like Ubuntu. I’ll give it a try, at first inside a Parallels VM and then perhaps in a separate partition on the ThinkPad I use for work.

Yes, I gave Solaris 10 a try a few weeks ago on a Sony Vaio and it seems to work nicely, i.e. the nVidia driver just works out of the box, etc. Unfortunately I then needed the computer for Linux again and decided to try a Solaris install inside VirtualBox, which although ironically is also a Sun product, would not install in a VM under OS X. So I gave up for now. Maybe I’ll give it another shot if I decide to try out Parallels. My next toy is OpenSuse 11 which just released last week, so that will keep me busy playing around for a few days. ;)
