GTA San Andreas Auf Dem Mac — Eine "Neverending Story"

Dear Sir/Madam:

I have purchased GTA: San Andreas for the OS X platform through Steam.

The game has recently stopped working; I can play other Steam games perfectly fine, including other parts of the GTA series.

After looking at your forum, the problem seems to be very common among OS X users and has been unsolved for quite a while

I am asking you to either provide me with a data when I can expect a fix or give me a refund on the purchase.

Thank you very much for your support.

Best regards,

Jean Pierre Wenzel

Hello,

Thank you for submitting your question to our staff. We will respond to your question by email.

 Hello Jean,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please check to make sure your game files are installed correctly.

Right-click on the game in your Library list and go to Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

NOTE: There may be files that fail to validate.  This is normal and can be ignored.

After Steam verifies the game cache, try running the game again.

If you continue to experience this issue, please contact the game manufacturer for support.

Let us know if you encounter any difficulty contacting the support provider for this title, or if you have any further questions.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I contacted the publisher of the game (Rockstar) and got no reply.

Judging from the posts in your GTA SA user forums on the Steam website, the problem occurs since a Steam client upgrade was released in June 2013.

As you can see from my play history, I have been successfully been playing GTA:SA on my Mac in the past.

It looks like the issue is related to the German version of the game. I would love to try to buy the international version of GTA:SA through my Steam client, but that’s currently not an option as the client tells me I already bought the game.

Can we try the following to solve the problem:

  1. You remove “GTA San Andreas (German) from my account” (and inform me about it)
  1. I try to purchase the international version of GTA:SA through Steam and see if that version works on my Mac.

If this solves the problem, I’m even fine with paying twice for the same game because I like GTA:SA so much.

If the problem is not solved by this solution, I still expect a full refund.

Please let me know what you think about this proposal.

Best regards,

Jean Pierre Wenzel

Dear Sir/Madam:

I’ve been referred to your support team by Steam support personnel; please see my forwarded request as following:

———————————————————————-

I have purchased GTA: San Andreas for the OS X platform through Steam quite a while ago and was able to play it on my MacBook Pro.

The game has recently stopped working; (judging from the information on Steam, the last time I was playing the game was back in 2013) I can play other Steam games perfectly fine, including other parts of the GTA series, e.g., Vice City.

After looking at your [the Steam] forum, the problem seems to be very common among OS X users and has been unsolved for quite a while

I’d be happy to provide more data (system specs, log files) when necessary.

Thank you very much for your support.

Hello Jean,

Thank you for contacting Rockstar technical support. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having problems with GTA: San Andreas on Mac. From within the Steam Library page, right-click on GTA: San Andreas and select ‘Properties'. From within the ‘Local Files' tab select the option to ‘Verify Integrity of Game Cache'.

This should take a couple of minutes and the file will be loaded.

If this does not work, please reply to this email and let us know so that we may continue with the troubleshooting process.

Best Regards,
David M. R* Technical Support

David:

thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately, this procedure didn’t help.

When I try to start the game, the “last played” timestamp is updated to today and I quickly see the GTA SA icon appearing in the OS X task bar (see screenshot).

Is there a way to create a log file that you would be able to investigate?

Best regards,

JP

I will forward this to somebody who knows about this issue and then they will email me back and tell me how to fix it. When they email me back, I will email you back.

We don’t handle support for MAC systems that much. We do have something you could try though, if this doesn’t help you can try contacting Aspyr.com

This sounds like it may be a permissions issue. Let’s first try to repair them:

Go to the Applications folder > Utilities > double-click Disk Utility. -Click your startup disk from the left column. -Go to the First Aid tab > Repair Disk Permissions

Disk Utility should fix files and folders with incorrect settings. If this is still happening let’s first make sure we have the latest Apple Combo Update as it resolves many issues.

If still running into issues, let’s create a new administrator user, and try this again in your game. Please let us know of any changes after following this step.

Michael:

Thank you for your reply.

As requested by you, I have repaired disk pemissons on my disk; I have created a new user with administrative rights, applied the OS X 10.9.4 combo update once again and tried to install “GTA:SA German Mac” through Steam with that new user.

Long story short: the problem still exists, even with another user on the same machine.

Please have someone with detailed Mac software development experience contact me so I can help to further investigate this issue by providing log files or debugging information.

I don’t easily see how Aspyr could help in this case? They are the vendor for other Mac-ported games but I currently don’t know how they are involved with the Grand Theft Auto series?

Your support forum is full of posts that describe the same issue that I am experiencing: users cannot download and run “GTA:SA German Mac” through Steam and play it on a more recent version of OS X > 10.6.x.

Will you be able to provide a solution for your users within the next 2 months?

If you won’t be able to solve the issue for me and the other users, I kindly once again ask your to offer a refund for my Steam purchase of “Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (DE)” made on April 6, 2012 for the amount of 9,99 Euros. In that case please also make sure that the game is removed from the Steam store so other users buying that game don’t suffer the same problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,
Jean Pierre Wenzel

Since you did that and it is still not working and since we are not Mac support, I suggest going online to Aspyr.com. There they handle all of the Mac support.

Michael:

Thank you for your quick reply.

I just got off the phone with Aspyr. They told me that they would not handle support for the Grand Theft Auto series.

Would you be able to provide me with an Aspyr contact who is able to help here?

Thanks for your support!

Best regards,
Jean Pierre

Michael, I see that the system requirements are for a very outdated version of Mac OS X (10.6.x); I am running the most recent version (10.9.4).

Can you verify that GTA:SA is still supported with the latest version of OS X?

Zai:

Thank your for your reply. Please find the System Profile as requested attached to this ticket.

Best regards,

–JP

Hello jpwenzel,

Thank you for sending in that file, unfortunately there seems to be an error with that type of file extension. If you could, please run another system profile report, but this time when you are saving the file, set it from the default file type (XML) to any option that presents you with a Text file extension and send that along.

Once we review the information we will get back to you.

Best regards, Tom Rockstar Support

The file is in fact an XML file, although the extension was missing. Please try again with the fixed file extension as provided within this ZIP archive. Thanks, JP
