Eines meiner Weihnachtsgeschenke war dieses Jahr die Steve-Jobs-Biografie von Walter Isaacson
.
Ich weiß, einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht… ich habe mich auch wirklich sehr über das Geschenk gefreut (und das nicht, weil ich als Apple-Fanboy Steve Jobs ja per Dekret unbedingt vergöttern muss).
Nach den ersten 100 Seiten fällt mir aber an mehreren Stellen auf, dass die deutsche Übersetzung einfach nur grausam ist.
Beispiel gefällig?
“When you open the box of an iPhone or or iPad […]”
wird zu
“Wenn man das Gehäuse eines iPhone oder iPad öffnet […]”.
Ich dachte zunächst, hier wäre im Original tatsächlich von case die Rede, aber box mit Gehäuse zu übersetzen, ist schon wirklich grob fahrlässig. Gibt es nirgendwo bei Bertelsmann einen Lektor, der ein gewisses technisches Grundverständnis mitbringt? Das muss doch jemandem auffallen! Wer von den iPhone-Usern bei Bertelsmann hat schon mal sein Telefon geöffnet — ohne Spezialschraubenzieher?
Wie auch bei der Übersetzung englischsprachiger Serien ins Deutsche geht natürlich auch bei diesem Buch einiges an Wortwitz verloren. Eines der Kapitel heißt zum Beispiel “Garage Band”, ein Seitenhieb auf ein nicht ganz unbekanntes Stück Software aus dem Hause Apple
. Im Deutschen ist der Begriff schnöde mit “Garagenteam” übersetzt worden.
Ansonsten liest sich der deutsche Text meinem Empfinden nach in weiten Teilen sehr holprig und nicht wirklich flüssig.
Wer das Buch noch nicht hat, sich aber dafür interessiert und der englischen Sprache halbwegs mächtig ist, dem empfehle ich daher lieber den Griff zum englischen Original: Steve Jobs: A Biography — das ist übrigens für die Preisfüchse unter uns sogar noch 8 Euro billiger als die Übersetzung.

Quite a while ago, I purchased the iOS game Yield from Apple’s app store. Playing it is a lot of fun, although there could be more than 13 levels. But my wife enjoys playing them over and over again.
With the recent update to version 1.43 the author, AN Grupa, decided to include ads (banners) in the game. No, not in the lite/free/appetizer version of the game, but in the one that I actually already paid for.
Furthermore, they did not go for nag-screen advertising, e.g., when loading the game. Instead, ads are displayed on top of your screen while you’re playing, distracting you from the game, and — worst of all — hiding one of the most important pieces of information in the game (“How many cars need to pass the intersection to complete this level?”).
The only workaround to hide the ads on a non-jailbroken iPhone seems to be activating the iPhone airplane mode, i.e., disable network traffic via WiFi or 3G.
I’m not angry enough to completely remove the game from my iPhone (I’m using the workaround for the few times I play it), but I’d really like to go back to the previous version. Unfortunately, Apple’s App Store doesn’t allow you to download/install an older version of an app, and due to a recent HDD upgrade in my Time Capsule, my oldest Time Machine backup only includes the current Yield version.
