Install Ubuntu 6.06 on existing LVM

If you decide to install the latest Ubuntu release (“The Dapper Drake”) on an existing LVM (Logical Volume Management) be sure to grab the “alternate” installation CD/DVD instead of the basic desktop installation disc image.

You will have to handle with the text-mode installer (no GUI during installation) but in my opinion that’s much better than re-partitioning the whole hard drive.
