NO MORE GMAIL.COM IN GERMANY

Due to legal skirmish, Google’s mail service (called “GMail” in the U.S. and “Google Mail”, e.g., in Germany and the U.K.) cannot be accessed [from German ISPs] by gmail.com anymore. Instead of the GMail UI, you see that error screen shown above. Pointing your browser to mail.google.com works fine, though.

Unfortunately I’m so used to type “gmail.com” – luckily, in Firefox 3 you just need to type “gmail” into the URL input field and then choose the correct entry from the drop-down menu (if you ever have visited mail.google.com before).

VIEW PDFS INSIDE FIREFOX ON YOUR MAC

After you’ve all upgraded to Firefox 3, you might also want to try out the firefox-mac-pdf extension, too.1

It displays PDFs “inline” (inside a browser window) instead of downloading and/or opening it in Preview.app or Adobe Reader. Great extension!

Within 15 hours, already more than 5 million copies of the new version of the Firefox web browser have been downloaded on “Download Day”.

ES GESCHEHEN NOCH ZEICHEN UND WUNDER...

Der Landkreis Biberach/Riß führt endlich auch Papiermülltonnen ein.

Neben dem ganzen Wertstoffhof-Schmarrn reicht’s wohl aus, wenn’s an den Geldsäckel geht. Der Landkreis sieht ob der Konkurrenz der privaten Entsorger anscheinend seine Felle davon schwimmen und damit Handlungsbedarf.

Natürlich setzt man dem Bürger auch gleich die Pistole auf die Brust, denn im Informationsschreiben, das der Bestellkarte für die Tonne beilag, war die Rede davon, dass die Entsorgungspreise “nicht so niedrig wie derzeit” bleiben könnten, falls sich die Haushalte dafür entschieden, ihr Papier in die Tonne eines privaten Entsorgers zu werfen. Moralisch zwickt’s dann doch, denn man dürfe selbstverständlich auch weiterhin “Vereine […] unterstützen, die Papier sammeln”.

ALTERNATIVE FUEL

Exactly four months ago I replaced the hybrid engine powering my body which ran on caffeine and nicotine with one running only on caffeine plus a small sugar additive.

Since then, the fuel consumption has leveled off at about 6 epd1. I don’t really know if that’s healthier…
