PROBLEM BY DESIGN
How do you change the automatic gear shifting of a modern automobile from parking (P) or drive (D) to neutral (N) if the main and the backup batteries are dead (imagine: you want to push it away from the road) and your gear lever has no direct (physical) connection to the transmission system?

Aus den Lautsprechern trällern Stimmen aus dem Jenseits deutsche Schlager. Ausnahmsweise mal nicht Nena mit 99 Luftballons (sie weilt ja AFAIK auch noch unter den Lebenden und ich habe in einer Pizzeria in Corvallis, OR sogar die deutsche Fassung des Lieds gehört, bei der natürlich kein Schwein den Text verstanden hat), dafür gaben aber Rudi Carrell und Rex Gildo auf Plastikscheibe gepresst ihre Sangeskunst zum Besten. Mitgesungen hat glücklicherweise keiner; wir sind ja nicht am Ballermann!
REMOVE ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES FROM OS X APPLICATIONS
I just found out, that in the File Info Box (select an application and press Apple + I) you can actually delete languages from the application file (I can’t do that to iCal.app you see on the screenshot because I’m logged in without administrative rights).
I’ve not recognized that before – did Apple introduce that function with the 10.4.9 updates? Anyone running an older 10.4 version who could verify that?
Of course this function does not make such nice applications like Monolingual obsolete, but i’s really nice if you just want to remove additional languages from one of your applications and not from the whole system (a.k.a. all applications).
As I’ve had problems with Monolingual before—see this post—you want to make sure you do have a (working!) backup. Don’t remove the English language from an application (just in case; you may try but I wouldn’t). Be careful. As always, your mileage may vary. Your fridge might explode or your cat might put dead mice in front of your bed. You know what I mean.

DEUTSCHE KENNZEICHEN IN KALIFORNIEN
Heute habe ich innerhalb weniger Tage schon das zweite Mal ein Auto mit deutschem Kennzeichen im Santa Clara County gesehen… Natürlich fragte ich mich, wer so sehr an seinem Auto hängt, dass er es mit über den großen Teich nimmt (gut, bei dem Porsche könnte ich das nachvollziehen, bei dem VW Passat, den ich zuvor sah, eher nicht…).
Erst als ich dann um das Auto herum ging, lüftete sich das Geheimnis: Die AU auf dem vorderen deutschen Kennzeichen war nämlich schon länger abgelaufen und auf der Rückseite des Wagens prangte ein kalifornisches license plate.
